Social distancing. it's going viral. Do the Five!

I can't stress enough how important is is to limit your exposure to others. Now that we are all working from home, we should stay there. Try to avoid crowded places like movie theaters, restaurants and cafes. I am seeing across the country, across the world, and even in Hoboken that restaurants are closing their dining areas and offering take out or delivery only. Now is a great time to try grocery delivery!

It's also important to keep our children inside. This is hard, but it's as important as staying home yourself. We are finding that children, if exposed to COVID-19, don't show many symptoms. They do however, spread the virus to others. It's super important to keep them home, keep them occupied and do not allow them to congregate. There is a very real possibility they may pick up the virus and bring it home to their families.

Yours in Health,

Nurse Joe

Charter School Cheer U-N-I-T-Y METS Cheer

On Tuesday, January 7, 2020 M.E.T.S. Charter School's Boys Varsity Basketball team faced off against Passaic Arts and Science Charter School. As the basketball teams were battling on the court, the cheer teams from both schools came together in the name of unity. While speaking briefly before the game, Coach Casella and Coach Dollar, Head Cheer Coach from PASCS, discussed their philosophies on respect and sportsmanship.Coach Dollar then invited the Mustang Cheer/Step Team to perform with her team during half-time. Each coach gathered a few girls from their team and quickly completed one run through of the cheer prior to the start of the game. The half-time performance went off without a hitch and parents from both schools approached Coach Casella after the game to compliment the amazing performance.Coach Casella and the Mustang Cheer/Step Team were honored to be part of such an amazing display of unity amongst charter school teams. We are grateful to Passaic Arts and Science Charter School, Coach Dollar, and the Panthers Cheer Team for their hospitality.

Holiday Toy Drive Toy Drive

A very special thank you to all M.E.T.S. Charter School students, families, teachers, and staff for their kind support and donations for the Holiday Toy Drive. Thanks to your exceeding contributions, we were able to donate toys to three locations in both Hudson and Essex County. The Developmental Behavioral Pediatrician, Spandana Nallapati, from the Children's Specialized Hospital in Jersey City, received our gifts with big smiles and gratitude. Devan Tierney, the Development and Communication Coordinator for WomenRising in Jersey City was also overjoyed to receive our toy donations. The third drop off location was the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. The Neonatal Social Worker, Nohelia Cajina, could not be more thankful. Nohelia hosted a holiday party on December 23, 2019 at 1:00 pm, where the toys were distributed to siblings and families impacted by infants in critical condition in NICU. The Mustang Mentality was truly manifested as the M.E.T.S. Charter School community came together to extend a giving hand to children and families going through a difficult time this holiday season. #GoMustangs

Students Help build M.E.T.S. Computer Lab! METS Vailsburg Computer Lab

Over the course of the school year, M.E.T.S. Vailsburg students were taught the functionalities and concepts of building a computer from scratch. Using the knowledge they have learned, students built 10 computers needed for the new computer science lab.

These custom built computers will provide students a lab to work on lessons, work on resumes and access to many programs such as Visual Studio, Photoshop, Fruity Loops, and Eclipse.

The computer lab is also home to the computer science class where students learn how to code programs and edit videos needed to pursue a STEM related degree.

We are extremely proud of our students and their help in making our computer lab possible!
