M.E.T.S. Newark campus announces update at Information Session on 10/23/17

Dear M.E.T.S. Parents and Guardians,

This evening we held an information session at our school for all students. It was announced at this information session that we will no longer be closing our Newark location and that students in all grades will have a place in M.E.T.S. for the remainder of the 2017-18 school year regardless of their grade level.  The teachers and staff will be here to support your students in anything they need.

It is important to note that at this juncture we currently do not have a permanent location for the 2018-19 SY and beyond. We are in the process of looking for a stable location which could potentially be in either Newark or Jersey City, preferably in Newark. Any child who is a student at M.E.T.S. at the conclusion of this school year will have a place in our new location next year wherever it may be.  We would also like to note that our partnership with Essex County Community College will not take effect this year, and that college level courses will not be available to students until the following school year.  We do remain dedicated to making sure students receive a high quality, rigorous education.

Newark Public Schools is still available for all families who still feel they would like to seek an alternative placement for their students, regardless of grade level, at this time. You can still make an appointment to meet with a Newark Public School representative at 301 West Kinney Street by using the form found on our website. Please note that any prior appointments made for this week that were scheduled to take place at M.E.T.S. will now take place at 301 West Kinney Street. M.E.T.S. will support your family with whatever your decision may be.

Tomorrow, October 24th, will be a full day of classes for students, and we expect all students to be present, in uniform, and ready to learn. We know this has been a difficult time for our families, but our faculty and staff is 100% committed to getting our students back on track to learning and having a truly successful school year.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us should you have any further questions.

Thank you,

Madelyn Dullea

Interim Lead Administrator
