What is a Charter School?
A charter school is a public school operated under a charter granted by the NJ Commissioner of Education, that is independent of the district’s board of education and managed by a board of trustees. Charter school legislation was passed to give choice for all parents for their children's education.

Do you charge tuition?
No, M.E.T.S Charter School is providing educations at no cost to you.

What is the requirement if currently my child is not registered with the Jersey City public school system?
Please contact Jersey City’s Board of Education at (201) 915-6000 to register your child into (any) JC Public School system.

What are the school hours?
From 08.00 am to 3.15 pm

What is your schedule for 2011/2012 School Year?
Please click on this link. Total school days for students are 195.
Three days are scheduled for weather closures. Days will be subtracted from the end of the school year for each snow day not used. In case there are more than 3 school day closings, spring break will be cut short.

How many students will be attending M.E.T.S. Charter School?
In the first school year (2011/2012), we‘ll have 320 students in grades 6 through 9 (80 students for each grade).
In 2012, grade 10 will be added for 2011’s 9th grade students (grade 11 in 2013, grade 12 in 2014). Therefore, in 2012, only seats for 6th grade will be open to new students.

Do you offer after school program?
It will start from 3:30PM – 6:00PM.  Cost to be determined based on the need but estimates for costs are $50 - $75 per week.

Do you have bus or transportation system?
Jersey City Public Schools do not offer bus or transportation system. Our location is very accessible (located by light rail and Holland Tunnel).
Mass transit vouchers are provided by Jersey City if a student lives at least 2 miles away from school.

For grades 6 to 8 you must live at least two (2) miles from 180 9th Street.
For grades 9 - 12 you must live at least 2.5 miles from 180 9th Street.

What foreign language classes do you offer?
We offer Spanish classes.

What are the surroundings of M.E.T.S. Charter School?
M.E.T.S. Charter School is located on Ninth St between Marin and Manila Ave. This location provides a safe, quiet, insular atmosphere which is conducive to the educational process.
In the beginning of each school year, M.E.T.S. Charter School offers an Open House to all interested families and the date is posted on our website.

What type of help is offered to students who are having difficulty in classes?
Free tutoring is available to students who need extra help.  Hours are during the school day, after school and Saturday.
